Joint Architectural and Urban Design CPD Guided Tour to East Kowloon Cultural Centre (Eng only)
Co-organised by the Hong Kong Institute of Architects (HKIA) and the Hong Kong Institute of Urban Design (HKIUD), this architectural and urban design visit to the East Kowloon Cultural Centre (EKCC) explores how design can connect communities across district boundaries. EKCC serves as a cross-district cultural hub for performance and community events, featuring five performance venues of varying sizes, equipped to support art groups of different scales.
Guided by the vision of “A Hub for All”, EKCC is conceived as a place where ideas collide—generating creative sparks that flow beyond the building through the “windows of art”, extending the cultural impact to neighbouring districts and further afield. Notably, EKCC won the HKIA Award of Hong Kong 2025, recognizing its architectural excellence and contribution to urban life.
The building also functions as an “Urban Connector”. Highly permeable and seamlessly integrated with nearby transportation nodes, it forms an elevated pedestrian link—the “Art-link”. By intentionally routing daily commuters through the Centre via a public pathway that intertwines with, yet does not conflict with, event activities, EKCC cultivates a culturally immersive environment that encourages interactions and encounters, and seamlessly infuses art and culture into the community.
