The Programs and Events Committee (PEC) recently organised a tour to the Yuen Long Barrage AND Nullah Improvement Schemes, which aims for flood prevention and improvement of water quality of the Nullah as well. Dr Sujata Govada, Chairperson  of the PEC, Mr Benny Chan, President, Mr. Barry Wilson, Immediate Past President and Dr. Vera Kleesattel, Chairperson of Membership and Accreditation Committee were joined by around 25 participants on the tour on 17 Jan 2026. The tour started with an introduction of the Yuen Long Barrage project by Mr Clement Wong, DSD along with others from Binnies Hong Kong Limited and China State-Alchmex Joint Venture, the Consultant team sharing some of the aspects of engineering, design, construction, technology and community engagement while addressing some of the key challenges encountered. They also highlighted the use of innovative urban design and landscape strategies to better integrate flood control infrastructure and ecological revitalization with public space design as well. This was followed by a site visit and a Q&A session. The project is expected to be completed in 2030.
