The Hong Kong Institute of Urban Design (HKIUD) extends its heartfelt congratulations to Donald Choi, BBS, JP, on his appointment as the Managing Director of the Urban Renewal Authority (URA), effective June 15, 2025. As an accomplished urban designer, Mr. Choi brings invaluable expertise to this "pivotal" role.  

During his tenure as president of HKIUD from 2020 to 2022 and as the convener of the inaugural Greater Bay Area Urban Designers Alliance, Mr. Choi was instrumental in promoting urban design in Hong Kong and organizing the first Greater Bay Area Urban Design Week, which included the GBA Urban Design Conference, Awards, and other events. His deep understanding of local land and housing planning, historic conservation,  innovative construction techniques and "property development" will be crucial as in "addressing" the challenges of urban renewal.

We believe that Mr. Choi will effectively lead the URA in actively addressing the issues of urban decay, revitalizing the city, and creating more people-centered and sustainable urban regeneration projects that enhance the quality of life and "living environment" for residents.
